FIVE SKIN HABITS TO TAKE UP
Are you as excited for the New Year as we are? Check out these five great skincare tips and kick off 2014 with healthy, glowing skin.
#1 Moisturize. Skin gets dry all the time. Flaking occurs when your skin doesn’t retain moisture properly. A lot of people experience this in winter when the humidity drops. The best times to moisturize are before bed and after a bath or shower. And don’t forget to drink lots of water. Hydrated skin = happy skin!
#2 Eat healthy. Junk food has a tendency to make your skin oily and dull-looking. Fruits such as strawberries, oranges and tomatoes contain essential minerals and acids which improve acne and give your skin a radiant glow. The easiest way to get rid of the bad stuff that causes pimples is to detox your body with healthy foods and exercise.
#3 Exercise. Step onto the treadmill and get your blood pumping! Breaking out into sweat for half an hour every day can drastically improve your skin’s health. Nutrients circulate better throughout the body, allowing your skin to heal quicker, and endorphins – i.e. the anti-stress hormone – are released into the bloodstream, which lowers your likelihood of breaking out. Just don’t forget to take a shower afterwards!
#4 Go make-up free. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells which clog your pores, but make-up is like glue for your skin – it seals in bad bacteria and blocks out moisture. Your skin deserves a break every now and then, so the next time you have a day off from work or a run to the shops, leave the foundation and eyeliner in your make-up bag. Natural is pretty, too.
#5 Wear sunscreen. Nothing causes wrinkles more than UV radiation. There’s simply nothing worse for your skin than prolonged sun exposure. Unfortunately, it’s mostly unavoidable – but you can limit the effect UV radiation has on your skin with sunscreen. Look for SPF 30+ and wear it every day.
