4 Skin Areas That Need Special Care
Our skin covers our whole body, not just our face. With so much attention aimed at treating the various bumps, boils and other blemishes that crop up in our facial area, it’s easy to forget about our other sensitive skin areas – and frankly, they’re in need of some special treatment too.
Without further ado, here’s a list of the skin areas you should be most concerned about.
Dry, chapped lips are one of the most common skin ailments. This is because the skin on our lips is softer than elsewhere on our body, and whether we’re grinning, puckering or eating, they’re constantly in use. Licking them won’t help as your body needs to replace the moisture that has been lost. Thankfully, there are a variety of chapsticks out there for both men and women that are cheap to come by and will help your lips regain some of their polish within a few days. In the meantime try and avoid citrus fruits, harsh toothpastes and tanning.
Back acne, or rather ‘bacne’, is caused by overactive sebaceous glands on your back. As common as they are annoying, they are a lot like facial acne in that they can appear quite suddenly in men and women of any age. Luckily, the treatment solution is also the same – exfoliate, moisturize, cleanse, rinse and repeat. You may also want to try wearing a clean bra each day, lying in the sun to dry out pimples and switching to a different laundry detergent in case your current brand contains a skin irritant.
We do nearly everything with our hands, including washing, cooking and cleaning. But if your hands are so dry and cracked that they hurt, the odds are that you need to start using a different soap. Our skin is made of many layers of cells called lipids which are covered by membranes that can be broken down by harsh soaps and chemicals. Switch to a mild, skin-softening soap and start applying moisturizer every morning and night to reduce redness and itchiness.
If you keep finding white flakes on your shoulders when it’s not snowing, then you have a very common and often overlooked skin condition called dandruff. Dandruff is essentially dry skin on your scalp which can cause itching and some embarrassing skin shedding. It can be triggered by dehydration, overactive oil glands, stress and sweating. Try using a special moisturizing shampoo to cure dandruff and remember to get some R&R every once in a while. Relaxation is good for you!
